The Lavazza website claims 80% of the UK population visit coffee shops weekly, with 98 million cups of coffee drank a day. And, dare we say it, coffee has overtaken tea as our hot drink of choice.

The estate agents at White & Brooks are partial to a frothy cappuccino or a short espresso when we’re out giving valuations and handing over keys. While there are 100s of big chains and independent baristas in Chichester, Havant, Bosham, Bognor Regis and everywhere in between, we have our favourites.

Here are White & Brooks’s top coffee shops and roasters in West Sussex.

  1. Cast Iron Coffee Roasters

This coffee roaster, located on Stane Street in Chichester, is a must-visit if your coffee fix needs to be more than a mug of instant. As well as stocking all types of coffee to brew at home, Storm tea, Mork hot chocolate, brewing kits and some very serious coffee machines, Cast Iron Roasters has an on-site café. Pop in for a cortado and a pastry if you’re passing - dogs are welcome too.

  1. Host

Host  is an independent, micro coffee roaster in Chichester that’s a true one-woman show. Becca started Host after visiting Columbia and now her hand-roasted, sustainable coffee is served and sold across the county. Buy at Goodwood Farm Shop, Refilled and Serendipitous Bakery or savour a cup at Bosham Sailing Club, Jam Café or Cowdray Farm Shop Café. If you can’t get to Host in person, why not sign up to Becca’s coffee subscription service?

  1. Goat

This is coffee with a hefty dose of sea air. Goat is located at Bracklesham Bay, making it popular with open water swimmers, paddleboarders, dog walkers and runners who want a hot drink at the end as a reward. There are teas, hot chocolates, soft drinks, pastries and snacks to go with coffees made with beans from Caravan Roasters. Don’t forget to check Goat’s website for sunrise, sunset, low tide and hide tide times.

  1. The Crate

The Crate in Bosham illustrates what’s possible with a shipping container and a little imagination. All the hot drinks are served take-away style from the old container, now beautifully converted. The outdoor seating area features heaters and blankets in the winter, and shade in the summer. You can swap coffee for cocktails as the day goes on, as The Crate is fully licensed and hosts a number of evening events.

  1. Ethos

This is one of the best brunch spots for miles, with every one of the 76 Tripadvisor reviews five stars. Located on Havant’s North Street, Ethos is known for its hospitality, smart presentation, and parmesan and truffle hash browns. The food menu shouldn’t detract from the coffee served, however. There’s all the classics, matcha options and some amazing latte art on show.

  1. Driftwood

If you’re in Emsworth to sail or to admire the views across the harbour, Driftwood is a must visit. It’s a two minute walk from the water’s edge, serving coffees, teas and a seasonal food menu. You could grab a coffee to go or head through the café to the beautiful rear courtyard and garden pod. Keep your eyes peeled for the work of local artists, which adorns the walls and is available to purchase.

  1. The Cloisters Kitchen & Garden

Is this the most atmospheric place to sip a flat white? The Cloisters Kitchen & Garden is located in the historic cloisters of Chichester Cathedral. The coffee has local history too, sourced from award-winning Edge Coffee. Run by the Edgcumbe-Rendle family since the 1980s, Edge coffee beans are ethically sourced and roasted fresh to order in the Edgcumbe’s Dutch barn in Arundel.

  1. Robin’s Nest

If you’re in Chichester and find your energy levels flagging, head to Robin’s Nest on Baffins Court. The coffee served will put a pep in your step, as will the cakes. The café recently triumphed at the Chichester & Bognor Regis Business Awards 2026, receiving Highly Commended in the Hospitality, Leisure & Tourism category. And did we mention Robin’s Nest hosts Silent Book Club events? The format is divided into three: 30 minutes to chat and order a coffee, one hour of silent reading, followed by 30 minutes to discuss what you’ve read. Bliss!
