With its ‘best of both worlds appeal’, Chichester and the surrounding areas offer plenty of locations where you can buy a property with stunning views.

From the rolling hills of the South Downs and the stretching sands of West Wittering beach to the amazing architecture of Chichester City and the expanse of Chichester Marina, there’s a rich tapestry of coastal, countryside and even cathedral to choose from.

Even before the pandemic, a ‘room with a view’ could increase a property’s sale price, and with the demand for green, open spaces continuing to rise, it’s not just sea views and endless landscapes that attract a premium.

In more urban locations, properties with views over parks, rivers, golf courses and even playing fields are selling for more, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

And the best news? There’s a view to suit anyone in and around Chichester. Here’s our list of the top five locations if you’re after a stunning view from your next home.

  1. Chichester Cathedral – city centre

With our Chichester estate agency branch situated just a few hundred yards away from Chichester Cathedral, we know first-hand how beautiful it is and why people would want to cast open their curtains and see it every day. For a close-up perspective, you can buy a city centre apartment but if a glimpse of the spire in the distance is enough - and you need more space - there are also detached houses on the city outskirts.

  1. Chichester Harbour – waterside location

One of England’s designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is Chichester Harbour. Spanning over 70 miles from Hayling Island to Chichester, there are plenty of coastal villages like Bosham and Itchenor offering stunning views. If you want a view of the marina, however, you should look at Birdham.

  1. West Wittering – beach views

This beautifully clean and unspoilt stretch of beach is a winner with holiday makers, making it a great area to buy a holiday home or family residence. Not only do you have the beach on your doorstep but most properties in the area are surrounded by farmland, giving breath-taking countryside views as well.

  1. South Downs – village living

Covering 628 square miles, the South Downs National Park can be seen from many of its neighbouring villages, depending on the property’s elevation. Currently, more than 100,000 people live within the boundaries and a further two million people within a five-mile radius, so it’s totally feasible you could be one of these with an astute purchase. Our personal favourites are West Lavington and Midhurst, where you’ll find a range of period properties and new build townhouses.

  1. Back to nature – gardens and greenery

If you’re more of a nature lover, then there’s a series of small villages north of Goodwood that offer stunning views of local gardens, nature reserves and even the racecourse, if you’re lucky. West Dean, Singleton, Charlton and East Dean also offer glimpses of the River Lavant from certain properties. Just five miles from Chichester, you’ll find small end of terrace or mid-terraced houses right through to large farmhouse-style homes and maybe even a plot of land with planning permission to build your dream home.
