The first meteorological day of spring is 1st March, heralding new beginnings, new optimism and perhaps a new you! If the shift in seasons is calling you to get out there and try something different, take a look at these activities.
- Join a book club: if you’re looking to reduce your screen time, consider joining a book club. A great place to start is The Haslemere Book Club, run by Emily, Charlotte and Sue. The trio are based at The Haslemere Bookshop, meeting every six weeks with a band of friendly, avid readers. Members get to choose what books are read, picking from classics, new releases, fiction and non-fiction.
- Start pilates: if longer days and warmer temperatures are encouraging you move more, why not try pilates? This low-intensity form of exercise focuses on strengthening and toning your core muscles. The skilled, patient teachers at Haslemere Pilates offer mat-based and reformer pilates for all ages and abilities.
- Try your hand at pottery: get hands on this spring and book yourself on to a pottery course at Grayshott Pottery. There are one-day ‘throwing’ courses available, with participants coming away with two hand-made pots or bowls. The on-site Kiln Café provides refreshments and there’s a fully stocked shopping emporium for those keen to add to their ceramics collection.
- Discover cinema home comforts: whether it’s Hollywood classics or new releases, a trip to the cinema is one of life’s little pleasures. The Living Room Cinema in Liphook elevates the experience to a whole new level! There are plush seats with cushions, a beautifully curated interior design and a licenced bar where mixologists will pour you the perfect pear martini.
- Increase your daily steps: walking is one of the best forms of exercise available and the Surrey/Sussex border has amazing landscapes to explore. Your starting point should be the South Downs National Park – more specifically the Haslemere to Fernhurst circular walk. Follow wooded paths, go through gates and over stiles for 8-9 miles, marvelling at the remains of Fernhurst furnace, climbing up to Black Down – the highest point in the park – and looking out for herds of belted-Galloway cattle.
- Rejuvenate your mind and body: Voco: Lythe Hill Hotel & Spa is only a five minute drive from the centre of Haslemere but it feels like miles away. This wellness retreat is nestled in 22 acres of tranquil countryside so you can switch off from the moment you arrive. Book in for a massage, take a mindful yoga class, or toggle between the pool, sauna and steam room. There’s also a gym and a full programme of exercise classes if you have energy to burn. Dine in the Tudor Restaurant or the bar lounge before returning to real life.
Spring is when our neighbourhoods burst into life. It’s also a great time to consider selling your home. If you’d like more information about the local property market and a free, no obligation valuation, please contact our Haslemere branch.
