As recent images from the South Coast can attest, there’s nothing like the sound of the waves, the taste of salty air and the feeling of sand between our toes when the weather hots up.
As an estate agent looking after properties along some of the UK’s finest coastline, stories about seaside destinations always catch our eye. Earlier this year we were thrilled to see Bosham named as one of the country’s top coastal locations, with the experts taking property prices, transport links, schools and amenities into account.
The Sussex harbourside village made the Daily Mail’s top 24 seaside towns and villages, and it’s not hard to see why. Here are White & Brooks’s 7 favourite things about this pretty coastal setting:
- Bosham Walk
This is an amazing arts and craft centre, owned by The Manor of Bosham and The Hundred. Inside you’ll find more than 20 unique shops and in excess of 30 smaller exhibitors, representing local crafters and makers. There’s also a café, a paint-your-own pottery experience, and sweet and ice cream shop.
- Shoreside Café
Owned and operated by the Millstream Hotel & Restaurant, the Shoreside Café is a real gem in Bosham. It’s set right on the waterfront for a tranquil outlook, with mouthwatering goods baked daily. Browse a menu that’s bursting with cakes, pastries, light lunches and refreshing drinks, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.
- The Crate
More than just a café and bar, The Crate is a lifestyle hub. This duo of artfully-converted shipping containers plays host to live music, DJs, quizzes, bingo nights, pop-up, themed food evenings, markets, classic car and run club meets, yoga and wine tasting.
- The Anchor Bleu
This harbourside pub is a treat in all season. As well as a large outside area, with parasols, seating and stunning views, there’s a cosy interior come winter. The exposed brick, timber beams and open fire provide a traditional setting and creates a welcoming atmosphere. Expect a seasonal food menu, perfectly-poured drinks and peaceful pooches curled up in the corner, as this is a dog friendly venue.
- The Photo Opportunities
Bosham is one of the most photographed locations in Sussex, especially as it’s the setting for some spectacular sunsets and sunrises. The skyline is dotted with white sailing masts, heritage buildings and the landmark tower of the Holy Trinity church. Find your position along the shoreline and snap away.
- The History
Bosham is at the heart of one of history’s most known tales. It’s reported that 12th century’s Viking King Canute wanted to prove that he was not untouchable, having grown tired of the admiration of his followers. It’s alleged he sat on a throne at Bosham beach to prove he couldn’t hold back the tide, getting very wet in the process. Sadly, it’s also reported that Bosham’s waters ended up being the King’s downfall. It’s believed Canute's young daughter drowned in the Brook Stream, with her body buried at Bosham Church in a Saxon coffin at the foot of the chancel steps.
- The Bosham Inn
Part of the Vintage Inn group, The Bosham Inn is where everyone heads if they want a first-class roast dinner. Sundays are almost always fully booked but if you can’t get a table, this pub - set in a handsome listed building - serves food seven days a week.
White & Brooks regularly handles houses for sale in Bosham and Bosham Hoe. If you are looking to move to the area – or have a property to sell in the village – please get in contact with our Chichester office.
