Every year, Dulux works with design experts to extensively research global trends in order to release its Colour of the Year. The shade for 2023 has been announced as Wild Wonder™ - a mix between a green and mustard yellow, and inspired by the power of - and our connection to - nature.

The warm, neutral tones of Wild Wonder™ have been created alongside four colour palettes: Lush, Buzz, Raw and Flow. With a combined total of nearly 40 colours in this range, the choice can feel overwhelming. To help, White & Brooks has put together a list of ideas to help you achieve a fresh, new look in your home:-

Zoning

You could take any one of the palettes from the new range and experiment with zoning. This is a way to create more intimate or clearly defined areas in your home, and it’s an approach that works particularly well in open plan spaces. For example, if you work from home but don’t have a dedicated office space, painting one area in Wild Wonder™ would help mark it out.

Bring the outdoors in

Inspired by woodland and forest scenery, the Lush palette was created to help people feel more connected to the outdoors. Colours such as Old Time Olive and Fresh Foliage are perfect partners for Wild Wonder™. Just add an abundance of house plants to bring the outside in.

Be bold

If you’re looking for more vibrant tones to offset Wild Wonder™, the Buzz palette is for you. The punchy colours, such as Manuka Honeybee, Harvest Dusk and Rich Juniper, can inject vibrancy into a lifeless room. This palette is all about mixing and matching – the rule is that there are no rules, so have fun and play with your colour schemes!

Colour blocking

The colours from the Flow palette are inspired by the sea, offering a mix of light and dark shades - perfect for colour blocking. By using blocks of contrasting colours, you’ll instantly bring even the blandest of rooms to life. If you’re trying out this decorating technique for the first time, you could paint three walls in Wild Wonder™ and use one colour from the Flow palette for your feature wall.

Create a soothing space

Sometimes life gets hectic and a place to retreat in the home is what’s needed. Using the right colour combinations can help create a warm and calming environment. Two-tone split walls are a great way to achieve this effect and you can create the look with decorator’s masking tape if you don’t have a dado rail. Any of the softer colours from Dulux’s four new palettes will help you embrace a more soothing and tranquil setting, especially if you use Wild Wonder™ on the lower half.

Add some drama

The Raw range of colours will add depth and richness to your home. Some of the darker tones, like Sweet Cinnamon and Precious Peat, will add a whole new level of drama to rooms that are traditionally painted neutrally, like kitchens and bathrooms. For maximum impact, paint your woodwork and mouldings in Wild Wonder™ and opt for an opulent shade for the walls.
