Spring is about transformation, so there’s no better time to think about breathing some new energy into your home – especially if you’re gearing up to sell. We’ve looked at some of the biggest home interior trends that will be making a splash this season, so why not give them a try?

Complementary colours

The colours we choose for our home reflect our personality and it’s also one of the easiest ways to completely reinvent a space. This spring, it’s all about using complementary colours to add warmth and light. Whether you decide to go for bright, bold mixes of colours, or more subtle earthy shades, choosing two complementary colours will add freshness. After working out how you want the room to feel, look at a colour wheel to pair two colours from opposite sides

If you’re looking for a quick fix before the ‘for sale’ board goes up - or if you want to limit your outlay - there’s good news. You don’t have to paint every wall in every room. Instead, you can paint shelves, a bookcase, a window frame or alcoves to give a room a pop of colour.

Step back in time

One of the biggest predicted trends for this spring is to embrace a retro-look. If you’ve inherited a few vintage pieces over the years and they’ve been gathering dust in the loft or garage, now is the time to clean them up and bring them back into use.

The 1970s look is a particular favourite among interior designers and this can be easily achieved in several ways; from accessorising with rattan or cane furniture and incorporating geometric patterns, to using warm colours, such as oranges and yellows.

Bring the outside in

When we think of spring, we instinctively connect it to the outdoors - blossom on the trees, daffodils in the park and sunshine on our faces. So why not bring some of this nature indoors? Tree and leaf patterns are a great way to make you feel more in tune with nature, so accessorise with botanical-print cushions or consider a bold wallpaper to create a feature wall.

Another easy way to make your home feel more spring-like is to decorate with houseplants and fresh-cut flowers. Thankfully there is a wide range of faux plants if you’re not green fingered!

All change? Au natural

Changing accessories is a quick way to give your home a new lease of life and spring is a perfect time to try the trend for natural materials. Rattan, wicker, wood, cork and clay continue to be incredibly popular, helping to produce a timeless, classic look that also exudes warmth and comfort. You can accessorise as much or as little as you like, from big wicker chairs and wooden tables to smaller ornaments and new lampshades.

Light up your life

Spring is when we start to use our outdoor space more and lighting in our gardens or on our balconies is just as important as illuminating interiors. Strings of fairy lights, table-top lanterns and spotlights that shine up through a plant’s foliage will show off your garden if viewers visit after sundown. Inside our homes, statement lighting is on trend. Oversized pendants and large table lamps make big, bold statements, so don’t hold back.
